Before vs After : What it’s like to have Work-Life Alignment

--

BEFORE

You wake up groggy after tossing and turning most of the night. You dread getting up and keep hitting snooze on your alarm.

Finally, you muster up what little strength you have and “get ready” for the day. But first, coffee.

Oh crap! It’s WHAT time?!

You fumble and rush around to look semi-decent from the waist up. It’s five minutes until your call and you still have to get your notes together and ready for a potential client. Papers are stacked all over your desk and that ‘organized chaos’ just turned into “where the fuck did I put that?” While you wait for your computer to boot up, you adjust the lighting, blinds, and make sure your mic is on…

You’ve had your business for a few years in the making.

Since you’re childfree by choice, not ready for kids, or an empty nester, it’s easy to overfill your time and become a workaholic. You’re passionate about what you do, but it’s time to simply and do more of what you love.

You keep a full schedule, but you feel busy and not productive as you want to be.

You don’t get the self-care you know you need. Everyone is vying for your attention and the guilt of letting them down is exhausting, yet you continue saying yes to them. Deep down, you want to do what you want, when you want.

Sometimes you wonder if you’ll ever live the life you want, instead of what others expect of you. But how? You’re overwhelmed and something has to give.

AFTER

Imagine…

After a restful night’s sleep, you take your time getting ready for the day because you allow yourself the time. Brew your coffee and fix breakfast, listen to your favorite music to get you pumped for the day, and go over your schedule.

You prepare for your call and are ready to dive in for an amazing conversation with ten minutes to spare.

Normally, you take your call in your home office, but today, you want a change of scenery and reconnect with the trees, mountains, and creek, so you grab only what you need for the call to move outside to the porch. You take in the beauty around you with gratitude while sipping your coffee. This is your happy place…

Since you’ve been in alignment, everything feels more inflow and at ease. You don’t have to try so hard and struggle less. You’ve been through a lot in life but are more resilient each time. Which has made you resourceful and an action taker.

Loved ones don’t seem to “get” you. Not that you care anyway. It’s your life and you live it on your terms. Not by the expectations of others. It’s the freedom you have worked so hard for.

Sure challenges still emerge, but now you’re able to handle them better. You feel the feels and go into solution-mode. You can make tough decisions confidently and faster because you are aligned or you’re not. So it’s an easy yes or no. You even listen to your intuition because you finally realized to trust it. There is no second-guessing because you stand your ground when it comes to your values and vision for your life and business.

You give yourself more grace and self-care when you need it most. Whether it’s a bubble bath, getting in nature, or playing a video game. You take the rest you need when you need it and still hit deadlines.

Since you’re in alignment, others feel it too and opportunities seem to come from everywhere in the least expected places. Many of these opportunities are in alignment so you give some of them a try and they turn into more amazing referrals, connections, and deeper relationships. The opportunities you turn down, you don’t worry about, knowing that something else is on the way.

As you chat and share your story with those around you, you inspire and empower them to be a better version of themselves. You’re the underdog that proved everybody wrong but only did it for yourself.
